SURGERY AND INTENSIVE CARE
Matanzas River Animal Hospital provides a breadth of surgery services that includes, but is not limited to:
- Spay and Neuter
- Traumatic wound repair
- Gastro-intestinal surgery
- Bladder stones and urinary blockages
- Removal of growths and tumors on the skin, under the skin, or in the abdominal cavity
Every surgical patient evaluation includes a careful physical exam by the doctor. Based on the exam the doctor will order testing needed to properly plan the anesthetic management and surgical approach. This will always include blood testing and may also involve X-ray, Ultrasound, Electocardiogram, or other means to evaluate the patient.
Each surgical patient is assigned to a team that will be with the patient from admission to discharge. That team coordinates the pre-surgical diagnostics, anesthesia, anesthetic monitoring, surgical prep, support and post surgical anesthetic recovery.
Our anesthetic monitoring equipment is human medical grade. Surgical recovery occurs in ICU which is in view from all parts of our treatment room. If necessary patients can be in a temperature, humidity and oxygen concentration controlled environment.
Some patients may require special surgical procedures that are not routinely done at our hospital. We maintain ongoing relationships with specialty surgery practices in our area which are staffed by Board Certified Veterinary Surgeons. It is our goal that your pet receive the best care - sometimes that requires a referral practice.
